The event features pianist Awadagin Pratt performing at the Etherredge Center at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. The Winter Nocturne is a tradition at USCA allowing audiences from around the Central Savannah River Area to enjoy an evening of beautiful music.
Pratt is acclaimed for his musical talents and performances in recital and symphony orchestras. Born in Pittsburg, he began studying piano at the age of six. At the age of 16, he enrolled at the University of Illinois where he studied piano, violin, and conducting. He subsequently enrolled at the Peabody Conservatory of Music where he became the first student in the school's history to receive diplomas in three performance areas: piano, violin, and conducting.
Pratt has even played in numerous recitals throughout the United States including performances at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, Chicago's Orchestra Hall, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Some of his orchestral performances include appearances with the New York Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra and the Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Baltimore, St. Louis and many others.
Since 2009, Ben Cox, a passionate USC Aiken Music supporter, has invited renowned artists to perform piano concerts at USC Aiken, benefiting both students and the Aiken community. These events conclude with a casual hot cocoa reception, hosted by Ben's wife, Elizabeth Cummings, giving attendees a chance to mingle with the artist. The Winter Nocturne concert offers budget-friendly ticket prices, free admission for students, with all proceeds supporting USC Aiken's Music Department.
