The Center for Student Success names new coordinator for student success

Collytte Medders will assume a new role as the academic advising program coordinator at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Medders brings valuable experience from her role as an academic advisor in the Gregg-Graniteville Library, where she's helped freshman students prepare for their courses since March 2022.

She will take on the responsibilities of overseeing the Office of Academic Advisors including faculty and staff trainings. "I'm excited to step into the role," she said. "I've always been a leader and taken on those responsibilities."

Medders is an alumna of USC Aiken, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in applied clinical psychology. "When I was a student, the Office of Academic Advising wasn't here. I was excited when it was created because I find this office to be so valuable."

Medders said she's well-prepared to guide students through their academic journey and support the university's overall success. "I'm excited to be able to coordinate and develop new teaching methods because students don't just need university information for their first year but for their entire college career."

Robert Murphy, director of student success, commended Medders on her passion for student success. "It was her experience, organization, time management, and leadership skills that set her apart," he said. "Passion gets you out of bed in the morning. That passion with organization, time management, and getting the work done (making an impact), is what this position and our students require."

Medders will begin her new role in January at the start of the Spring 2024 semester.
