Getting Down to Business: Edward Carsen Crumpton talks about his love for accounting

Crumpton is one of five graduating seniors university-wide selected as an exceptional student ahead of December Commencement

Edward Carsen Crumpton knows it's time to get down to business as he gets ready to graduate this December at the University of South Carolina Aiken. "I'm going to graduate with 150 credit hours already," Crumpton said. "And I'm going to attempt to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam hopefully next year."

Crumpton is an accounting major from Lexington, S.C. and says he chose USC Aiken so that he could be close to family and friends. "I was in between places and didn't know where I really wanted to go," he said. "Honestly, on my tour I met a couple of people that I really liked, and they eventually became my fraternity brothers and I realized that's when I made the right choice."

When asked why he decided to major in accounting, Crumpton said it was his father who motivated him."He owns a business building custom homes in Lexington. When running your own business, it is especially important to know how to manage your finances yourself," Crumpton said. "I've always wanted to be my own financial adviser."Crumpton added he's even working part time for his dad helping to build a home in Aiken County.

Crumpton has also occupied his time by getting active on campus. He's currently apart of Lamba Chi Alpha Fraternity, Beta Alpha Psi, and has even served as a 2022-2023 Pacesetter. He was even recognized by the School of Business as Outstanding Student in Accounting last year.

When asked what advice he leaves for incoming students he said, "Find someone who cares about you and your career as much as you do if not more. Because everyone who's in the position they're in is because someone helped them." Crumpton says after graduation he plans to work at an accounting firm where he currently interns.

USC Aiken will hold its December Commencement at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, in the university's Convocation Center.
