Get ready for another year of performing artists from around the world at this year's 38th Cultural Series. Families can enjoy live entertainment, beautiful artwork, and much more as the Etherredge Center brings the world to Aiken. Additionally, The Carolina Series will celebrate five years featuring local women in the arts.
"For over 35 years, the Cultural Series has been leading the way as we meet our mission to present, promote, and inspire cultural and intellectual opportunities for the benefit and enjoyment of individuals in the University of South Carolina Aiken community and the CSRA," said Paul B. Crook, executive director of the Etherredge Center.
Families can enjoy the "Magical Mask, Music and Mime of Japan" featuring Kuniko Yamamoto on Sunday, September 10th at 2 p.m. Yamamoto enchants audiences with dramatic storytelling using myths and fables from ancient and modern Japan.
On Tuesday, October 17th at 7:30 p.m. audiences can enjoy Letters Home by the Griffin Theatre Company. The play features the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq front and center by bringing to life actual letters written by soldiers serving in the Middle East.
The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ) will present "Bach to Brasil" on Thursday, November 9th at 7:30 p.m. With over four decades of experience, LAGQ set the standard for expression and virtuosity among guitar ensembles. The group will present a new arrangement of Samuel Taylor- Coleridge's Danse Négre, works by Bach, Beethoven, and Copland.
One of the world's most popular groups, Vienna Boys Choir, will perform on Tuesday, February 27th at 7:30 p.m. The group is divided into four choirs and performs around 300 concerts each year led by President and Artistic Director Professor Gerald Wirth.
Celebrating two years of keeping American traditional circus alive, Bindlestiff Family Cirkus brings its diverse roster of the world's finest circus on Tuesday, March 26th at 7:30 p.m.
Singers Robert Sims and Louise Toppin will present a sparkling program of the vocal and piano music of Gershwin. "Gershwin on Broadway" will be complete with classics like "Fascinatin' Rhythm," "Lady Be Good" and "Strike Up the Band" on Saturday, April 27th at 7:30 p.m.
The Carolina Series will ring in the new year with performances celebrating women in the arts.
Yuting Chen, a pianist, is pursuing her doctoral degree in Piano Performance at the University of South Carolina and will perform Saturday, January 27th at 7:30 p.m.
Robyn Noelani Arnold, a dancer and choreographer from upstate South Carolina, will take the stage Friday, March 15th at 7:30 p.m.
All performances will take place in the Etherredge Center Theater, except for Zeynep Gedikoglu's opening reception on Friday February 2nd at 6 p.m. in the lower lobby gallery.
