The University of South Carolina Aiken has one again been recognized for its commitment to student success, collaborative research and post-graduate outcomes by Colleges of Distinction – created in 2000 to help students and their parents navigate the process of selecting the right college.
USC Aiken received several notable recognitions from Colleges of Distinction this year. The honors include: College of Distinction, College of Distinction in South Carolina, Public College of Distinction and for its business, education, nursing, career development, military support, and affordability.
"We believe that engaged students are successful students," said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer at Colleges of Distinction.
USC Aiken's School of Business stands out for its commitment to graduating students with strong critical thinking skills and adaptability in a rapidly evolving society.
"Before granting awards, we conduct a thorough evaluation of the programs. We look for qualities such as accreditation, program breadth, advising and mentoring, integration of career services, and successful student outcomes," Schritter said. "It's truly remarkable to see how USC Aiken exemplifies these qualities, particularly within the realm of business and management."
Dr. Judy Beck, dean of the university's School of Education, said, "The USC Aiken School of Education is pleased to be selected for this honor. Our teacher candidates are engaged in a rigorous field-based program that prepares them to be teacher leaders in their classrooms, schools and districts. Each year, we have a number of alumni named Teachers of the Year."
The School of Nursing was recognized for its commitment to well-rounded education, specifically the school's excellence in nursing education, emphasizing its effectiveness in preparing students for the demands of the field.
The university's career development recognition serves as confirmation that its career services go above and beyond in supporting students with comprehensive four-year plans, personalized advising, and more.
"The resources and unwavering support it can give to students all throughout their academic journey sets them up for successful, fulfilling careers in whatever field they choose," Schritter said.
USC Aiken also earned specific acclaim for its exceptional Military Support initiatives.
Robert Murphy, director of the university's Center for Veteran and Military Student Success, explained how important this honor is for the campus and Aiken community. "We have a prized collaborative partnership with our university psychology department and provide assistance to veterans transitioning from the military/deployments back into the community. The entire Aiken community, through their donations, provided over $25,000 in annual scholarships for military veterans, military spouses and family members, and active service members."
Murphy added USC Aiken and the South Carolina National Guard are committed to creating opportunities that open doors to a military career or assist in the transition to the civilian life.
USC Aiken has also provided the best options for college assistance. In an era dominated by discussions about college tuition and student debt, the Affordable Colleges of Distinction recognition aims to assist students and parents in navigating college financing. The university shines as a beacon of affordability showcasing its notable financial costs and positive outcomes.
